The Radar Echo Telescope for Cosmic Rays: Pathfinder experiment for a next-generation neutrino observatory

چکیده

The Radar Echo Telescope for Cosmic Rays (RET-CR) is a recently initiated experiment designed to detect the englacial cascade of cosmic-ray air shower via in-ice radar, toward goal full-scale, next-generation ultra high energy neutrinos in polar ice. For cosmic rays with primary greater than 10 PeV, roughly 10% an air-shower's reaches surface elevation ice-sheet ($\gtrsim$2 km) concentrated into radius cm. This penetrating core creates many orders magnitude more dense preceding in-air cascade. can be detected radar echo technique, where transmitted radio reflected from ionization deposit left wake RET-CR will test method nature, air-shower serving as beam. We present projected event rate and sensitivity based upon three part simulation using CORSIKA, GEANT4, RadioScatter. expects $\sim$1 per day.

KM3NeT: A Next Generation Neutrino Telescope in the Mediterranean Sea

To complement the IceCube neutrino telescope currently under construction at the South Pole, the three Mediterranean neutrino telescope projects ANTARES, NEMO and NESTOR have joined forces to develop, construct and operate a km-scale neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea. Since February 2006, the technical specifications and performance of such a detector are studied in the framework of a...

Simulation of Cosmic Ray Tau Neutrino Telescope (CRTNT) Experiment

A τ lepton can be produced in a charged current interaction by cosmic ray tau neutrino with material inside a mountain. If it escapes from the mountain, it will decay and initiate a shower in the air, which can be detected by an air shower fluorescence/Cherenkov light detector. Designed according to such a principle, the Cosmic Ray Tau Neutrino Telescope (CRTNT) experiment, located at the footh...

A Next-Generation Telescope for CFHT

It is argued that Canadian astronomers, in particular, will require access to more large telescope time than currently being planned and that French astronomers will require access to Northern facilities. It is also argued that it is probable that the new 8m class telescopes will out-perform CFHT in delivered image quality and be more cost-eeective in operation, so that CFHT will eventually hav...

Extremely High Energy Cosmic Rays and the Auger Observatory

Over the last 30 years or so, a handful of events observed in ground-based cosmic ray detectors seem to have opened a new window in the field of high-energy astrophysics. These events have energies exceeding 5× 10 eV (the region of the so-called GreisenZatsepin-Kuzmin spectral cutoff) ; they seem to come from no known astrophysical source ; their chemical composition is mostly unknown ; no conv...

Exotic Neutrino Interactions in Cosmic Rays

The spectrum of extra-galactic cosmic rays (CRs) is expected to follow the GreisenZatsepin-Kuzmin (GZK) cutoff at about 5× 10 GeV which results from energy losses of charged nuclei in the cosmic microwave background. So far the confrontation of this feature with CR data is inconclusive. In the absence of close-by sources a power-law continuation of the spectrum might signal the contribution of ...
